Lantern Rod
China. Qing dynasty, 19th century
Red lacquer on wood; mounts iron
52.7 cm (21 3/4 in.)
 
The lantern rod is carved along its central section with a tapering rope twist and is lacquered overall in muted red. The handle is mounted with an iron sheath with a curved hook for hanging the rod and the other end is mounted with an iron sheath and ring for suspending a lantern.
