Lantern Rod
China. Qing dynasty, 19th century
Red lacquer on wood; mounts iron
52.7 cm (21 3/4 in.)
Along its central section the lantern rod is carved with a tapering rope twist, indented at the midpoint. The surface is lacquered a soft red. The handle is mounted with an iron sheath with a curved hook for hanging and the other end is mounted with an iron sheath and a double ring for suspending a lantern.
